Apr 24, 2012
Call them Lake trout, Lakers, Mackinaws or Togue, they aren’t really trout at all, but the largest member of the char family that includes brook trout and arctic char. Once the most important commercial fish in the Great Lakes, they succumbed to overfishing and predatory lamprey eels. But by limiting lamprey populations and most commercial fishing, lake trout are once again numerous in the Great Lakes and popular with anglers.
