Since I live here in Florida one gun I have had little rust starting on it.  With a little research I found a product used for boats. Its called Woody Wax. My carry gun is a Taurus. And known not to have the best blueing. I had some rust on it. I used Woody Wax I have the Woody Wax in a foil and applicator is like a sponge. I wiped the gun where rust was and gun looks even better then when it was new. That’s been almost a year ago no rust. I did all my guns with Woody Wax. It really keeps rust away. Sure makes barrel looking just like new

I spend a lot of the winter in the wet, especially chasin’ ducks and geese. My shotguns always take the abuse. I use a spray lube called INOX. It cleans, lubes and protects and won’t wash off with water. Good for anything mechanical, safe for all painted sufaces and acrylic plastics. Advertised for marine and aviation applications. I’m an 25 plus year A&P;/IA dealing in general aviation and won’t use anything else on the airplanes I work on. I just spray and wipe my guns after a trip and never have a problem with flash rust. Shines up wood and synthetic stocks too. NO sticky residue or foul smells.

Thanks for the tips guys.  I feel ashamed that I have had rust on my rifles at one time or another.  Where can you get that stuff guys?  I would like to add it to my arsenal in my cabinet.

Hey Brothers,
I use a product some of you may have seen on a job site. It’s called Aero Kroil, made by Kano Laboratories in Nashville, TN ( http://www.kanolabs.com ). You can usually find it in the Pipe Fitters and Plumbers gang box (LOL) but is available from the factory. Says right on the can that it is great for cleaning and protecting guns and gun barrels. Also works good in fishing reels if used sparingly, and loosens any stuck bolt or nut better than anything on the market! Smells like the cleaner “Simple Green”.
You do need to use it with good ventilation!!! Just my two cents.

Got my sample in the mail.  Havent tried it on any of my rifles yet but I did use some of it on my atv.  My rear brake cable and assembly was sticking because it was starting to corrode.  I cleaned it all up and sprayed a little of the INOX sample and it worked great.  That same day, Lori and I went riding and we went through some very wet and deep holes.  When I got home I checked on those brakes and I was surprised that the area that I sprayed hadnt washed away.  It was still lubricated well.  I probably wont be going again for a few weeks, so I sprayed a little more on just to be safe.

Thanks USA and INOX for the sample.  Maybe I can convince the purchasing agent here at Huhtamaki to give it a try.  We use alot of lubricant here in our facility.

There are products made for gun bluing for this purpose, if the wax is working great. Just remember that true bluing is a controlled oxidation of the iron in the steel. Some synthetic waxes are designed to break down any oxidation to protect which is good, but not good for bluing. A company called “Blue Wonder” has a product called “Armadillo”. They are from Texas can you tell, well the primary ingredient is paraffin wax and montan wax which will not harm any weapon finishes guaranteed. Beware if you have an black oxide or parkarizied finish then any wax may change the color and texture of the finish because it is very difficult to remove from rough finishes.  Good luck with saltwater with anything. When going to school at Smith & Wesson a model 629 came in for warranty work. The gun a stainless steel 44 Mag. revolver was so rusted it was almost not recognizable. The letter with the gun stated that he swam with the gun being afraid of sharks, no wax would have helped him and thank God he did not fire the revolver underwater! My three cents worth.
