Never been but I like your thinking about the high power.  Whats it gonna hurt to tag it along?

Always take the rifle if you want to ensure that you have some meat to take home.  Cool to try and hunt them with the bow but these critters aint all dumb and sometimes you need to reach out to them a little longer with the rifle to fill the fridge.

Good luck with it and share some pictures when you get back.

Nick,

I once went on a hog huntin MS….we weren’t allowed a GUN, BOW, or Even a Muzzleloader…we only took with us 2 chase dogs, 1 pitbull (she looked like she had went through a shredder), set of handcuffs and an 8 INCH custom made knife made by IBEW 903 retiree!  The Knife was for ME if I wanted to have a face to face combat challenge with the Boar (I was all For IT).  Handcuffs were for wrestling the Pig alive and taking them home to fatten up with grain…I guess they taste better…Unfortunatly we didn’t have much luck running any hogs, but the experience was well worth the opportunity.  We were down there in the heart of Summer and the bugs were horrible…plan on taking plenty of bug spray or therma cell.

Was wild boar hunting in Tennesse with some buddies…one guy used a compound bow and made a good kill, but another guy using a bow had to finish his hog off with a 44 mag. I did kill a nice Boar with a Winchester 30-30. (close range) I would suggest taking along some kind of high powered firearm. Watch out for the tusks….those pigs can get pretty mean.

Tim, when I was reading your last post I thought it was a joke but I guess you werent kidding.  What the hell kind of hunt was that?!!  Caveman hunt or what?  I guess if I were lost or my life depended on it I might tussle with a boar with a knife.  I dont know, thats pretty radical if you ask me but it sounds like you had a good time.  I would like to see some video footage of that hunt for sure.

Yeah Tim, thats funny you say that cause a few weeks ago my buddies went down to Mo, and shot one with there bow and then the guy was like for another $200 you can get a hog a whole diffrent way….He wouldnt tell em how till they paid Ha, well they paid and found out it was him, the other guy, and 2 Pitbulls….Sure enough…Pitbulls chased a hog down held it down by its ears, and he had to slit its throat…He came back and said it was fun but ill never do that again. Ha I guess $200 to do that was dirt cheap most guys charge atleast $500 Due to the danger there dog is in…He said that the hog cut the dog about a quarter inch from the jugular, so they had to take the dog to the vet right away, and there went ol boys $200 on surgery for the dog… Kinda crazy… Not very ethical but id do it once…
Im taking off today at 1p.m. cant wait… Couldnt sleep last night, sighting in the 30.06 in about an hr (Got to wait for the neighbors to get out of bed) Ha damn old folks Ha j/k… Everything has been packed up sitting by the door for 2 days now… Girlfriend doesnt think im comin back home Ha…She will be lucky if I do ; ) See ya guys Ill be back on Sunday night… With hopefully some pictures…

Good Luck and don’t be afraid to shoot Twice!  The last thing you want to do is track a wounded Boar.
