Sorry I cant be of any help but wanted to talk about this subject a little. For years, hunters in Maine have been seeing first glimpses of this big cat. The state for some reason will not acknowledge that this feline has naturally found its way into Maine but puts it on the protected list just in case (and for good reason). I spend countless hours afield whether it be hunting, fishing or just riding in a car in a country setting and have never crossed paths with a mountain lion. Hell, I can count on one hand my encounters with bobcats and they are plentiful. I have 2 good friends that I have known since we were children that have seen a lion. One encounter was in the northern maine woods while bird hunting and the other was in the town of dixmont crossing a paved road near one of Maines biggest bogs. There have been many other sightings as well. What bothers me the most is when these reputable people go to the state with their observations, they are looked at as fools who cant distinguish a lion from a bobcat. I realize that biologists are driven by science and they need proof, but its pretty shallow of them to make a mockery of so many good sportsmen who care about wildlife and take the time to make these calls and drives to Augusta with their observations.
Sorry for venting here but I am sure you all have opinions about your respective state agencies. Maybe someday, a person like myself who carries cameras around, will get lucky enough to photograph one of these big cats and put an end to the controversy.
