Just did a Boar hunt at Tioga Ranch in Tioga Pa. Nice place, good people, Lots of other game animals. Got a 100lb. russian boar with a .454 lever action @30 yards. Tasted real good!
I just watched a special on the discovery channel last night regarding the PIG BOMB…20 years ago, there were less than a Million pigs in the USA, with most being in the south. Today their are more than 6 Million roaming thru out 40 different state and they have been inter breeding with the Russian Boar, which has made them more fierce and reluctant to charge…Sounds like a fun hunt.
You’re a bigger man than I am, literally! When I was shopping for my revolver, I shot the 500 and down to the 44. Bought the 44. Have you seen the commercial with the guy that has tiny hands?
No I haven’t but with the 500 I was surprised at the recoil. I also hunt with a .454 Casull and it is about the same. Don’t get me wrong, its a big recoil but you’re not going to shoot it all day. As a backup it’s great. It’s also fun to see the faces on other hunters when you let one fly!
Pig hunting is a lot of fun.
I hunt hogs down here in Florida. Last year I shot 5 hogs all were around 100 pounds. I shot 3 with my 243 and 2 with my 280. One as close as 15 yards the others 50-80 yards. I was lucky since was 1 shot and down. Hog hunting is the cheapest hunt one can find and still be in the woods. All my hogs but 1 had little fat on it. One had as much fat almost like a domestic hog. To make good sausage since the pig meat is so lean I go to the store and ask the meat cutters to save me pork fat. I have made the best barbq using some of my hogs. I cook the meat in a slow cooker for 12 hours then chop the meat fine. I use sony barbq sauce never seems to last long either. I also use the Cajun Injector and roast a leg at 350 for 3 hours hmmm that’s good too.
