Just got back from hunting and I was absolutely freezing in my stand. Had to get out early because I could not feel my toes or fingers. Looking for some suggestions for a good pair of cold weather gloves and boots. Right now its about 32 degrees and it’s only going to get colder. Thanks in advance.

Lacross, Bitterroot boots work great for me when I am in the stand, if I am on the ground I wear a light walking boot with 800 grams of lining.
Gloves are dry plus from Cabelas.

If you are sitting in the stand and not moving, a set of insulated boot covers and a hand warmer muff help greatly.  Hand Warmer

I forgot as a little thing I do is put an old chunk of carpet or burlap on the base to keep your feet off of the cold metal. This helps also to keep the cold air off your feet.

Thanks for your help. My buddy swears by those hand warmers. His has the pocket to put the hot hands warmers in. How rugged are those foot warmers? I’m going to check them all out. Somebody told me about a pack boot. It has a removable liner. Anyone ever hear about them. If so, where can you buy them? He had is for about 10 yrs and forgot where he got them. Thanks again for the replies.

They make so many pac boots it is crazy. The boots that I was talking about are pac boots. The liners come out an you can get other ones, these are rated for 40 below.
A friend of mine is diabetic an he uses the boot covers an without them he could not stay in the stand.

An excellant pair of “Pac” boots that I use when it is very very cold are Sorrels, they are a little pricey but well worth it. They have soft leather uppers and galvanized rubber lowers. They are triple stitched, with a bobbed sole. Good traction, and they keep you very warm.

A friend uses what are called Mickey Mouse boots, they are also a “pac” boot. They are army issue, you can pick them up at most army surplus stores. He tells me they have a valve were you put air in which forms to your foot and gives a dead air space, I think he said they are rated to 80 below.

A good hand muff with disposable 12 hour hand warmers works great, I use rag wool gloves they have the tips of the fingers cut off so you can work with them. They have a flap sewed on that when open is attached to velcro, when you detach the flap they cover your fingers. This flap also is just the right size for putting a dispoable had warmer packet in. They work great for the very coldest temps.

Hey mausergun -40 rating dosent mean much.If you are moving around they will keep your feet warm but when sitting still in a tree stand or laying out in a field they wont get even close to that.I have some Rockys rated to -50 and if it is under say 20 degrees they dont keep your feet to warm when laying out in a field.I just got some Lacrosses that are rated to -120 so maybe that will get it.

The boots work for me with the right socks. I have used them for 3 years , in the stand an on the ground. I have had them out in 20 below in a stand an I was good to go.

WOOL, wet or dry keeps you warmer than synthetics. Ever see a sheep shivering?

The hand warmers are the best in combination with wool, you can save a fortune by ordering them in bulk from an emergency medical supply catalog like http://www.galls.com or moore medical; we use them for first-aid at work, same concept.

What ever and when you decide on boots make sure you buy some good socks. There is some thermo ones that also draw the moisture away when your feet sweat and trust me your feet will sweat real easy when walking in any of those boots. But those socks may also cause your feet to crack mine do.

Sportsman’s guide has some good warm boots with 800 to 1000 gram thinsulate.  I got the 800’s last year they are very warm.  I’ve always suffered form the same thing when my feet are cold I’m out of the woods. Check out Sportsmansguide.com to get them to send you their catalog.
