Getting ready for KY deer season in a couple of weeks. I have some conflicts the opening weekend so we are going to hunt it hard the second part to see how we can do. Same bunch of guys who have been hunting together for about 30 years now and I have to admit that we kill a lot more cases of beer (after the guns are put away) than we do trophy deer but I can honestly say that opening morning is still like Christmas morning to me and I hope I never lose that feeling.
I will make sure I send along photos of my B&C;buck once I put him on the ground!
Woke up to 4 inches of snow this morning!!!! Had all I could do not to call in and go hunting. To make matters worse, I got out of my truck at work and there were fresh deer tracks in the parking lot. I knew I should have called in!! That was definitely a sign. Supposed to be 55 degrees here by sunday so guess the snow wont last until I can hunt on Monday. Vacation for me is soon approaching though.
Gritt,
Finnally had a nice one respond to my rattling. He was coming, stopping to fight some saplings on the way. He couldn’t find a way thru all the dead falls and had to double back to come down a creek. That’s alright it was early, about three oclock. Here comes another deer at a dead run. I think it’s another buck going to spoil my shot, but I was only partly right. It was a horny doe coming to get in an orgy with these two fighting bucks(me). The tree fighting buck decides he wants to &*%K instead of fight and chases after her. Of course she runs off, why did she come in the first place? Just like a woman playing hard to get.
On the way out after dark I twist my leg, and am now waiting for 9:00 Sunday morning to go to a prompt care to see what the damage is. Swelling and can’t make my foot come up, but no bruising or pain. I can’t believe it don’t hurt.
Going back out tommorow, if they say it won’t kill me.

I will be looking for those B&C;photos,I got a big one by me just waiting for him to step in my range. good luck
My buddy has been running the trail cam so I am going to try and post some photos when he sends them. We have a couple of young eights running the property and one young fella with half of his racked snapped off and he is showing some wear and tear from a big fight. We’re hoping we can find the big boy who ruffed him up.
Mike,
Thanks for the enquire. Dr. took xrays. No breaks. He put a splint on and said ice it down a lot. Stay off for two days. Today is Sunday. Just got back from my property. Went down Wed afternoon. I wore two socks and tightened my boot really tight. It still has a tingling sensation and I can’t raise the foot all the way, but got to hunt at least. Couldn’t find any shooters. The corn isn’t picked yet, and it was kind of warm for this time of year. The rut is in full, just can’t be in the right stand for a big one to come by. I’m probably done archery. Shot gun season comes in next Friday. Going to give it a rest (me and the property) till then. Got a muzzleloader tag for later. Ron
Hunting has been slow so far, the antelope were so spooky that we could`t get within a quarter mile. Slow down the truck and they were gone and the coyotes were thick, watched them chasing a herd a half mile away. Did manage to shoot two coyotes, saw 30 or so. Deer hunting was a little better picked up a 4by4 whitetail and my wife shot a 4by5 mule deer nothing big, 18 and 22 inches. Now elk hunting has been another story, been out a couple times, but no snow to speak of and the snow we do have is pretty crunchy. Two of my favorite spots now seem to hold a bigger wolf pack than elk herd, those damn wolves are everywhere thanks to the wolf reintroduction program and as I have seen if you have wolves in an area you don`t have many elk. I guess it`s time to buy a wolf tag and do my part. I hear they are shooting quite a few elk south of Butte may have to look up a fellow operating engineer and head that way. Still have the waterfowl season and upland bird season in full swing so there is no excuse not to get out and enjoy. Maybe a little bird hunting this afternoon. Nice today 40 degrees and no wind. Here`s hoping everybody fills a tag this season.
Good Luck

Great post. Sounds like you are hunting everything under the sun but I suspect you are blessed living it Montana…truly a sportsman’s paradise. Good luck and let us know how your season develops.
