Welcome! Don’t have a big enough piggy bank to elk hunt yet, but I am saving up! They are kinda hard to come by in South Dakota. Where are ya from and what do ya do? Dig around in the forums and you will find plenty of elk hunting threads.

Welcome Schum,
Yes I like chasing the elk also. Check my earlier post under “bragging about that buck”. How have you beeen doing on your last four trips. Bringing home an elk is not a prerequiste to a successful hunt. (Don’t want to stir things up again) But that’s what I believe and I’m sticking to it. I’ve booked with the outfitter for the next two years. I’m totally lucky to be a retired steamfitter, with a decent pension fund, and an understanding wife. She says if I can pay for it she understands I can go. The scenery out west is great, but killing an elk is tops to seeing the scenery. The wife and I went to The Grand Canyon and several states this spring looking at the scenery. What a beautiful country we live in. And it’s plenty big too. We need to bring some of those terrorist over here and show them how big this place is. Maybe lets just send them a big map. I think they found out blowing up something just made us mad. I love it when they complain about our boys bombing their houses and they bitch beause they got their family in the same hut with all their bomb making supplies and weapons.
Good luck on your future elk hunts.        Dslyr

Sunday the 25th is the start of the general big game season here in Montana, it runs for about 6 weeks.  The first weekend is usually nuts so I may wait a few days before I start elk hunting, something I look forward to every year. Still have a couple of antelope tags too fill, better do that first and while on that hunt I usually fill a deer tag, that leaves the rest of the season to chase a big bull. Some years those bulls seem scarce and towards the end of the season I settle for a cow. You can`t eat the horns anyway, but they look good on the wall. This is a great time of year to roam around the mountains successful or not. Hunting, Fishing and a cold beer once in a while, what more could a person ask for.

  Good Luck to all

Steve,

Just got back from Montana and that is incredible country.  You have to let us know if you connect with an elk and I expect pictures too.

Steve - I’m counting on it.  If I can’t get out there to hunt those elk I sure hope a good USA member does.

Did some bird hunting in an area near Craig and the scenery and the weather were perfect.  Shot my first Hungarian partridge and actually got a Scotch Double (two birds with one shot).  It was luck but I’ll take it every day.

Mike ,

I live in Helena but my office is in Great Falls. I am very familiar with the area as I drive that stretch daily. I also hunt and fish that stretch. By the way nice shooting, huns are hard to hit.

You would be amazed at what you can do if you close your eyes and pull the trigger.  Missed a shot at some sharptails but it was an awesome day.

You definitely live in an incredible part of the world but I guess you know that already.

I have only gone once on my own, just outside Mt. Rainer Washington.  It was great.  But nothing compared to my experience with the ETTW crew this year!!

Thank you USA for truely the trip of a lifetime!

Greg,

Glad you could make it on the trip this year with us.  Not just make sure you tell everyone just how easy it is to submit your application to go on a hunt with the USA.

Take care,

Mike

Mike,

I’ve been doing nothing but telling people how to put in an application and to join since last years ‘runner up’ phone call.  Thanks again.

There is no place like hunting the southwest when it comes to hunting elk! Specifically Arizona! The Problem in Arizona is getting a tag. The draw system is the only way you can get a tag in Arizona. But there are other states that have great bulls as well!

We have access to Landowner tags in New Mexico, Utah, Nevada and Colorado. Let me know if we can help you out!

Take a look at these Arizona bombers and you can always go to my website for other bulls!
