If anyone has any opinion’s on this gun please share them with me. I’m in the market for a new rifle. I currently shoot a Remington 30-06 and it has to much of a mule kick for me to enjoy shooting prior to the season. It actually seems a little uncomfortable-to shoot. So again i would appreciate any input or direction in a rifle selection or preference of other deer and other large game hunters.

Thank you murph

The 300 short mag will kick even worst. I don’t own one but I have shot one. If it was me I either put a brake on the 3006 or change the recoil pad. Also you may want to use a lower grain bullet too

The 300 short kicks way harder. So what type of game do you hunt and what will the rifle be used for mostly. Then I give you my thoughts.

Murph,
This is just my opinion.  That is a super caliber you have chosen.  If you want less recoil than your 30-06 then youre going to have to get some custom work done on it.  Porting your barrel (muzzle brake) is a must if you cant handle the stock rifle.  Does browning do this special order?  I would look into it.  I have friends who have the .300 short and they love it.  With so many calibers and magnum choices out there, its really hard to choose a rifle nowadays.  But I stick with what the others are tellin ya….....its a kicker.

Murph,
How’s it goin? I am not sure what all you hunt, but if some of it is bigger than a deer, keep the .30-06! If you main game animal is deer you can go as low as a .243 caliber, and still be legal in I think all 50 states. I started deer hunting in Montana at 13 with a .270 Remington Model blah blah. Great round for deer, because it is fast, flat shooting, and accurate! You can also get more yardage out of it than a .30-06. Presently I hunt with my late Father’s .30-06, but would like to make it a wall hanger (in a trophy rack) and get another .270. Till I get a set of antlers to set it in it is still “the” rifle.

Enough rambling from me! Buy a .270 and go shoot something!

Murph,
If you are just finally reading these posts after almost a year after the original, I really hope you find humor and some information in it! Every now and then, I get suckered into something “new” without noticing the original post date.

my wife is tiny and she is able to shoot a 300WSM thanks to the Bell and Carlson stock. These stocks have a much larger Butt pad than most and really help lower the felt recoil. Also you may want to try some of after market recoil pads the new Remington pad is really awesome

In my opinion the my dads browning xbolt 300wsm handles the recoil way better then my 30-06. the 300 seems to push more than slam into your shoulder like the 30-06
