I just bought a wild view trail camera at a sporting goods store, but I think I may have bought a bad one. I set it up in my basement, in my trophy room, at night to try & get somr IR shots when my kids walked by. All the photos are blurry. Only when I stood perfectly still did it show a good picture. Do you guys have any advice…Bear Killer?
I bought the same one because it was on sale at Gander Mountain. These are only good for over bait piles, salt licks, or where you can capture them walking down the trail for up to 5 secs before picture will take. The Moultrie Game Spy 4 mega pixel is a great camera, plus I think you can take video clips and them a picture at the end with the infared. Moultrie hit the market after Cuddie Back came out and are priced less. If you’re going to spend the money, buy the Infared!
Bear Killer I read an article in the petersons mag that is part of the subscription to the usa in 2009. They wrote a comparison article and the Reconyx camera came out with the highest ratings in all categories.
STAY AWAY FROM MOULTRIE….........BOUGHT ONE THRU CABELA’S IT WAS A 5.0 .....FIRST ONE LASTED 3 WEEKS AND AFTER THEY HAD IT 5 WEEKS THEY FINALLY SENT ME ANOTHER AND IT ONLY WORKS INTERMITTENLY…
I have a remington 5.0 stealth cam with IR flash reg flash time temp. and video.
Camera works great , trigger is pretty fast and i paid less than half of what a moultrie cost.
I bought a Cuddeback two years ago. It takes fast shots, almost too fast, I got over 300 photos of a twig blowing in the wind. I moved it and got another 300+ photos of a branch about thirty feet away. They were good photos though. Then it quit working, and they sent me a brand new one this spring. It took four photos and it quit. They are good for sending you another one. I’m on my third one now. I think I’d rather have one that works.
I bought a Primos 35, and it seems to work fairly well in the back yard. It does video also. It’s down in the woods now doing it’s thing(I hope). I just ordered a Moultrie Picture Viewer off the internet from Optics Planet.com for $63 dollars. The reviews seem pretty good. There was no shipping and $5.36 taxes. Fairly cheap compared to the catalogs.
One thing about these cameras is they aren’t exactly easy to use. I found out the hard way that the Cuddeback doesn’t work with SDHC cards, the Primos can use either. No biggy, but for an iliterate computer guy like me, WHAT"S THE DIFFERENCE!!
I hope the picture viewer reads them both.
P.S. You can buy two Primos 35 for the price of one Cuddeback. They wouldn’t give me cash back on either of the Cuddebacks.
I bought two Wildview and they take great photos of the woods. Or a stationary critter. I couldn’t walk slow enough in the back yard to get it to take my photo.
Hey .
Check this out.
I was just browsing thru a sportsmanguide magazine and saw a Moultrie 5.0 IR trail cam on sale for $99..
Its a steal at that price..
Just thought Ide let ya know.
Its been pretty dry as far as work around here lately and its only a $100 bucks but i cant even buy it right now. I got alot of other things (bills) to send money to instead of that but It is a pretty good deal for that camera . If I cant buy it , hopefully someone reads this post and can.
That Sportsman guide really has some cheap prices sometimes. I bought one of those memberships where you get the cheaper prices. Sometimes they’re out of stock or don’t have all the sizes, but I’m hooked on them pretty good.
Have you tried the Moultrie camera? I guess I’m a little dissapointed with Cuddeback. They sent me three new ones so far, but like I said I’d rather have one hanging on a tree taking pictures than having new ones in the mail. You can’t go by the prices. I don’t think the more you spend the better it is. Have you tried the Moultrie? Don says his didn’t work so well.
Mark,
Sorry things are tight for you brother! I had a short lay-off this winter, and thought I was gonna freak. It was my first in my short ten year carreer. I have brothers in my local that have been off for nearly two years. I really have no words to explain how I feel about that. All I can say is that my BA called me and I answered.
Ron,
I have a couple friends that have gone the route you are on. They each bought moultrie cameras and have never complained! I’m getting one for this season.
Garlinghouse,
That’s what is great about this forum. Getting actual info about something that someone has used- be it an outfitter, a gun, or a trail camera.I just checked my Primos camera and after six days got one doe and her yearling, and two photos of the foodplot, plus me checking the camera of course. That might be what’s breaking them- taking a picture of me. Don’t know why the empty frames but I’ll put up with a few. Could be a bird or a running deer I suppose. I’ve got it on video this week. There was some turkey droppings in the other end of the plot- that would be neat. Hen though. During the fall archery season hens are legal. Don’t know if I would shoot a hen though-that’s what makes more turkeys.
I took my farmer neighbor over to look at my plots, and I got off my ATV and went to relieve myself. Can’t drink enough water when it’s 95 out. Stepped right in front of the camera. One for the edit room floor. Probably not big enough lens to see anything anyhow. My white clover got drowned out in one of my plots, and my turnips are gone also. It rained 10 inches one week. I mowed the stuff and replanted some six days ago, and was going to kill it off and replant again. Jim got down real close and looked and showed me where it was coming back, and the stuff I planted six days ago is coming up too. I guess I’ll keep the Roundup for the trails and around my little cabin. $15 for a half a gallon isn’t too bad. It’s real concentrated too, better than you can get at the store. It would have to be, a farmer couldn’t afford what Menards charges for a hundred acre field.
Tried to clear a path to one of my stands, but it’s just too hot, after about an hour I gave up. I paid Foresters to go in there and trim some of the saplings and now it’s like walking thru pick up sticks with tons of blackberries growing up thru it. Talk about thick cover. I came upon a deer bed right in the middle of the thick stuff. He’ll have a nice path to get to it now. Hope it stays around somewhere.
What fun! Can’t wait till deer season.
Ron,
I hear ya. Season is actually not far away. Going out next weekend to check stands, and clear shooting lanes. Over the fourth I was able to get the .30-06 out. The old girl is still on her one-inch-at-one-hundred-yards terror. Was so much fun that I didn’t notice the twenty rounds I fired till the next day! Shoulder was a little stiff. I wouldn’t worry about the food plot. Still plenty of summer for it to grow in.
I have a moultrie and it’s ok. I bought a cuddy back and it was good but I had the same problem with it taking 500 pics of wind. I want a stealth cam when I get some cash. Got a new baby and money don’t grow on trees around here! LOL although my wife thinks it does
Has anyone used a Reconyx trail cam. I read in an earlier post that it got good reviews in a comparison of trail cams printed in a magazine, but I’d like to hear from our members. It is actually made in the U.S.! http://www.reconyx.com/
