I have a pair of custom built lightweight, riveted aircraft sheet aluminum pack boxes and saddle. This rig was built by my father (an aeronautical engineer) and I to fit the donkey we had for packing into the desolate wilderness ares of No. California during the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. Minus some usage dings and dents, they’re in pretty good shape. The design was simple, just hang off the side of the custom aluminum saddle. Hinged doors and lot’s of shelves and storrage space kept things in place and in tact on sometimes a rough journey. They were also designed to be free standing so when removed from the saddle they made camp/kitchen and keep the critters out (not bear proof) boxes. Dad has been gone for 3 1/2 yrs now and we don’t have horses or a donkey anymore and probably won’t ever do the month long deep mountain treks we used to. I don’t know anyone who does that anymore either. Hate to see them go to waste just sittin’ around. Not even sure what these things are worth because they’re one of a kind. If you, or know anyone into the kind of adventure these boxes have been built for and may be interested, post a note. They are currently in the hanger at mom’s house, a little more than an hour away from me. I can take measurements, some pics, and possibly weigh them if there is an interest.

I have pics and stuff on the boxes and saddle. Too many KB’s to load on this site. If interested leave a PM with an e-mail address and I’ll see if I can send ‘em on. Each box weighs approx 8 1/2 lbs. The saddle with tack weighs approx 10 lbs.

Big Bird, still havin’ severe ‘puter issues. The pics I have of the boxes are loaded on 3 1/2 ” floppies. If your ‘puter will accept the relics, let me know and I’ll mail ‘em to ya. Otherwise I’ll try to move them to a CD, just don’t know when that will be.
