I am a member of the IUOE Local 800 and my son just passed his hunter safety course out here in WY and I am in the market for a “left handed 243” for him.

Kevinlee,

Just a suggestion…......have you thought about a single shot break down?  New England Firearms makes a Handi-Rifle in the .243.  My wife shoots it and its very accurate.  Inexpensive too.  They also make it in the youth model.  Single shot might make him take more pains when aiming?  Just my 2 cents.

Hope you find what youre looking for.

You may be able to order a Savage from ......about anywhere Wal mart included with a scope bore sighted from the factory for around 400 or so.I think thats about what the outfitter I guide for paid for his boys left handed .270.The other thing I would think on is maybe go ahead and go with the .270 as far as big bodied deer goes it has a lot more knock down power but the recoil is pretty easy to handle. That is what all the deer hunters I know down here started there kids off with myself included. The Savage is a fine gun and very accurate. When my boy was 13-14 I watched him put three rounds in an area you could cover with a quarter at a 100 yards with his.Granted I do buy pretty high end ammo which helps with that but my attitude on that is when hunting big game one shouldnt cut corners on guns or ammo as we owe to the animal being hunted to do our best to insure that when we pull the trigger we stand a very high probability of cleanly killing that animal with out wounding them in such a manner that they suffer for a long period of time or run off and die within a hour or two and then not be able to be recovered.

Sorry not here to preach just get carried away sometimes, but the Savage is a great gun for the money and when loaded with good ammo it can be extremly accurate.
