On the opposite coast so can’t help w/ location but best advice for new T-hunters I can give is have a wife that hunts too, or at least a very understanding one. 2nd -Is to find a bonafide turkey slayer & tag along. It will cut the learning curve way down ,just don’t expect him to show you his best spots. 3rd - Never tell anyone where your best spots are.

KB 1440….. just about any place on the eastern side of the valley in the foothills has turkeys. I’d stay below 2000 ft elevation. The western side has’m but they seem to me to be farther and fewer between. I have even found them in the river bottoms around here (not that there is a lot of them). Go to your local BLM office and get some maps of public or state grounds. Once you have some then spend some time on google earth, look at the turain and brush cover. Then start scouting. Do you have a boat, that can help you to find a spot away from the crouds.

I had another thought for you. A bunch of years ago the sierra club and a bunch of other tree hugging pieces of $&%@!!!!!! Managed to get a Law passed that band all mountain lion hunting here in California. Since then the cats have grown in population and have lost some of there fear for man. It seems like every year a turkey hunter gets attacked or has a very close call with a cat that mistakes them for a turkey. I not looking to put fear in you just educate you with your first year out there. Be careful and remember there is no bag limit on long tailed yellow coyotes! ;-)

How did your season go? Did you slay’em? It is almost that time again.
