Can anyone tell me if these things work on black flies?  Or are they just for mosquitoes?

Mike,

I was told by one of our former employees that he had used this in Canada and it kicked-butt on black flies.  Said he couldn’t have survived without it and his only regret was that he didn’t have enough refills.

Thanks for the info Mike…...If you didnt know, the black fly is our state bird.  Late season turkey hunting is almost murderous and I wont mention what happens if you like brook fishing in late May early June.  Guess I will give it a try next spring.  I was always under the assumption that it was for mosquitoes only and in fact, the commercials I have seen for this product advertise it for mosquitoes.

You’re right, they promote it primarily as a mosquito repellent but it actually has broader application.  found this on their site:

The repellent is allethrin, a copy of a repellent that naturally occurs in chrysanthemum flowers. It repels up to 98 percent of mosquitoes, black flies, and no-see-ums, and will not harm humans or pets.

Give it a try and let me know if works.  Hold it, if Black Flies are your state bird I don’t know if it is legal to harass them with an effective repellent : -)

Sure glad we don’t have any near us. The skeeters in and around the rice fields are bad enough.
