I fish oversize sturgeon in the Columbia River. I all so do allot of other fishing in Washington. I have a nice custom biult 21’ Willie Raptor. It is a very comfortable boat to fish from. I have all the gear and know how to catch these monsters. Our average fish will be 8’-10’. NO JOKE!!! these fish are very big and will jump like a Tarpon. I had a 9’ Sturg jump 7 times after we hooked him in only 10’ of water. Some fish are smaller and some are bigger.

Best time to fish these monsters is from mid/late May- about the middle of July

Not sure what trip to trade for but would love To do a Hunting trip. Bring atleast 1 guest to help land one of these guys. It it expected to hand the rod off to atleast 1 other person. thye will make the biggest guys question their stregnth after sometimes a 45 min battle. That is why I call them SEA MONSTERS!!

I allso have pics.

BigBird and others,

If I can make a trade for a trip it would be cool but to be honest if people would want to go and just buy some gas it would be cool.  fish about 45 min from Portland, Oregon. They have a Large AirPort.

Just keap it in yer mind if you get a chance and wanna take a day or 2. Just drop me a line, trade or no trade.

I would post some pics but I have not figured out how. I can E-mail them if I hade peoples e-mail address. When I try to load them up to this page it says something about the pics being to big or something. maybe I should try and catch some smaller fish? J/K

Oh I should add. These fish are ALL released unharmed. It is not legall to kill them. Some of these fish can be well over 100 years old!!!

a large fish that seems to put up a large fight.

now i catch sturgeon on the Altamaha river in South GA on ocassion but after about a 5 minute fight they just quit and it is like dragging in a lump of grass. they have never been over 2 feet long.  Atlantic Sturgeon is what an old man told me they were and they are protected.

Ok I will start with the first pic. I am on the right and my bro is on the left with his lil guy in the center. That fish was caught just above Astoria oregon and was a 56” keaper. He was out visiting from N. Carolina.

The next pic is of my boat. I had this boat custom biult by Willie Boats. It’s a 21’ Willie Raptor. Powered by a 200 Optimax Sport Jet. The motor and pump are like 364 lbs. The boat is all welded Alumanium. The paint is even custom with Custom Ghost flames. I can take the top down on nice days or put it up with a big propane heater when the weather is nasty. It has biult in Rod lockers on each side as you can see in the other pic. I allso have diamond plate gunnels and had them run a sander overthe hi spots. It really looks cool and after walking around on them after a few years it still looks new. I had allot of other small things biult into it as well. It’s sitting in the shop ready to go when ever I am. Hook it up and GO!!!!

That pic of the big Sturg is me in the back and my buddy BOB (the bald guy) He is allso a Local 26 SteamFitter/welder. I had been after him to go catch some big Sturg with me and when I finally got him out he was hooked.  I think that fish was about average. Maybe 8’-6’. we caught 8 that afternoon all within 6”+ or - of that one.

the other pics are of some jumps. I have a really cool one on video but can’t get it onto my compooter. The one up close jumped about 6’ from the boat and had the guy holding on for dear life when it came up like that and ran back out another 100 yards in just a few seconds.

BigBird thanks for posting the pics. I need to learn how to shrink them down. I have a photobucket account so maybe I can figure it out as well.

huntnfish,

I’m the Northwest Regional Coordinator for this area. I currently live in WI and get out to the west coast about every other month. I’ll be in Seattle area July 28 - August 7. I’m going on a fishing derby with the IAM down by Westport on August 2nd. I have some free time the next two days. I’d be interested in setting up a day of fishing. I’m good at paying for gas and buying the barrely pops and food! We could also talk the USA and how we could put together and organizing drive with your local.  e-mail if we can put something together. .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)

I FISHED OVERSIZED STURGEON IN OREGON BACK IN 2000 AND ALL I CAN SAY IS IT WAS THE BEST TRIP OF MY LIFE.WE CAUGHT AMERICAN SHAD FOR BAIT AND WERE USING 5 POUND SHAD WHOLE WITH 11/0 HOOKS!! IT WAS A BLAST FROM CATCHING THE BAIT TO LANDING BOTH AN 8 FOOTER AND A 10 FOOTER.I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND A TRIP UP THERE TO FISH FOR THEM.PLUS THE SCENERY ON THE COLUMBIA RIVER IS AMAZING…....
