Well bossofthewoods,
had a very interesting hunt this morning in new jersey, had 20 deer under my stand at one time,i was just about to shoot a 6 pointer, when in the corner of my eye i noticed a monster buck appear. he came within 50 yards and just stopped, looked around and then went back to where he came from. WHAT THE HELL HAPPEN. i said to myself it couldnt of been me cause i have 20 deer right under me. so i turn my attention back to the 6 pointer, but only could watch him walk away. so ilost out on two bucks for today, but theres always tommorrow. had alot of fun though

Bow Hunter,

Are you running any trail cams around your site?  Would love some members to start sharing their shots of deer, turkey, etc. from their camera set-ups.

Bow Hunter,

Not a problem…I don’t run any cams myself…to cheap to buy one just yet.  i would be interested to see if any other folks are running them and if so, would you share some of the images.  I think it’s pretty cool to see what some of the other folks in the club are chasing.  I just hope you all don’t have a knuckle head like I do hunting the same property as you.  My buddy runs a cam on the property we hunt together and he has a friend who likes to sneak up and surprise us with a “full moon” shot every once in a while.  Talk about loosing your lunch!

Took this 8 point buck with a homemade osage selfbow. The bow is 68” tip to tip, pulls 72 lbs. @ 27”. Use a cedar arrow and a 145 grn. Stos Bros. broadhead. Hunting a funnel and near a white oak dropping acorns. Saw him several different times at a distance, came within 12 yrds 4th time out. The broad head went through shoulder, lung and the heart. He ran 60 yards. Very thankful and blessed. Hope everyone has good luck and is safe!

Gary,

That really is a nice buck and I think it’s fair to say that hunting “old school” like you do is something that gets a lot of people’s respect.  If you happen to have some more daylight photos of the buck, please attach and maybe even send them in to the USA (mailto:USAmembers@trcp.org) for a chance to win a brand new Buck 110 knife.

Keep hunting and keep the posts coming.

Bigbird: I am still laughing. The next primative step would be to hunt with a stone point. I can’t flintknapp! I would like to try for bigger game. Thanks for the nice words guys. “Jump from a tree” my knee’s hurt every time there is a cloud in the sky, i’m still laughing.

Nice deer and great story. Made your own bow? Makes me think twice about buying a new $800+ compound. Now there’s a true “master hunter”.    Dslyr

Mike,
Here is a couple of better photos. Not the best quality.  It was an after work evening hunt during the first week of bow season in September. A spike and a 6 pointer came in around 5:00. The spike was directly in front of me several times. Passed hoping to see a 10 pointer that I spoted briefly opening morning. This 8 pointer came in about 5:45. To nice to pass up with archery tackle. Because of the warm weather I only got a couple poor light pictures and then took him to a buddy’s freezer. That’s the only down side of a work night evening hunt, gets kind of rushed. Thanks for everyones comments.

Congrats on the buck and hats off to a guy who is willing to put in the time and effort to harvest an animal this way.  I have to agree with Slayer…you truly are a “hunters hunter”.
