I have retired my shot gun untilthe fouth season, I only use my bow for the rest of the season here in Iowa. It is a lot harder but tons of fun.

I use my bow on turkeys also. Like Jason we get multiple permits and I usually take one with the smoke pole and then try my bow on the second one. If the weather is right and the birds are active, I’ll take it first and last. This year I’ve got a permit for all five seasons(one bird tho) and one for the 5th season. Can’t wait. They are strutting already here. Actually the youth season is open today and tommorow. Can’t wait till my grandkids get old enough.

I have a blast out hunting with my bow. I use to hunt with shotgun but once I tried it with the bow I was hooked.

I know exactly what you mean, it is awesome. I actually feel more confident shooting at a bird out at forty yards with my bow then I do with my Nova pump

Calling a bird in is very cool but to get one with a bow is something else. Some of my friends think that it is a waste of time but I have a great time!  I like the fall the best cause you dont have to deal with the bugs but it is still hunting!!

I’m not even close to there yet with my turkey hunting… still a challenge where I’m hunting to get them with a shotgun. Hopefully someday I can get good enough to give the bow a try. Been bow-only for deer for about 12 years.

Turkey hunting with a bow is a blast and I recommend it.  You wont ever want to shoot another with a gun after you shoot one with a bow.

Haven’t taken a turkey with a gun for 5 years now, do all my turkey hunting with my bow. Spring and fall. Still only allowed one per season here in Michigan. The birds around me were not to afraid of people about 8 years ago, then everyone started calling and hunting them. It took about 3 years for the turkeys to get real call shy and run for the next county when they saw a human. I took 8 nice longbeards straight when I first started hunting them here in Michigan. I guess that’s why I started using my bow, back then it seemed to easy with the gun.

Some of the hunters around me that started late are still trying to get a decent bird with a gun. Although I do not get one every season anymore I still do pretty good, I think I have 11 fans w/beards, and 3 full mounts.

My first turkey was with a shotgun, but the bow was with me.  Since then, I have only taken the bow.  Archery in a ground blind is pretty easy.  Now try and stalk one with your bow!  thats tough.

If any one has hunted Turkeys in WI, you know there are plenty of birds to go around.  I have 2nd season, April 22 - 26. This will be my 1st year taking by bow. Most of my birds are shot on the run and gun method!  A lot of walking and calling through the valleys and by the time you have a chance at a bird, its usually been when I have the Benelli Nova 12gauge in my hand.  Hunting in WI early season, the birds are hung up with hens usually til about 10:30am after that, its probably the best time to hunt.  Any one who is interested in WI turkey hunting, we sell tags across the counter at $15 for out of state hunters + license and stamp, and they go on sale March 23, 2009.
