I got out for a quick hunt after work and what a hunt it was! I was in my tree stand and set up at 3:07 .I had barely settled in when this nice buck came walking along right in front of me.When he got to 17 yards and he was in my shooting lane I sent the broadhead his way and it hit him perfectly quartering away through both lungs! He wobbled his way out into the field and I saw him drop. The time was 3:20 when I looked at my watch after he was already down. The bolt was stuck into the ground up to the fletching even after passing through the buck.I saw this buck back in september and he was a nice wide 8,a solid three year old.Today he was a post rut battle weary warrior with two broken brow tines and a broken main beam.Lots of guys would have passed this guy but he looked fine to me and I think he has a ton of character!

To have a broken main beam of that size tells me he was quite a warrior.  To not shoot a buck with broken tines and of that size would tell me that the hunter was only looking for antlers.  With all the tv shows and the hype about shooting trophies, its good to see that hunting for meat still exists.  I love to watch the shows but sometimes I dont think much of the hunters (or so called) hunters on the TV.  I want to see some of these guys come play in my sandbox and see how they do.

Nice buck Ben.  You are a true sportsman.

I’ve never been able to cook the antlers very well and he was a nice three year old buck.I’m not letting a mature buck pass at under twenty yards because he has broken his rack. To each his own but I’m pretty happy with this guy!

Nice buck. You’re right , you can’t eat the antlers.
