I’m waiting this year to start bow hunting till the first week in Nov. here in Ill. I got this pretty nice buck on camera last week. I know he’s probably not worthy for most hunters but he’ll do just fine for me. If he moves around in the day light.

Not worthy?  I’m pretty choosey but that boy better not cross paths with me!  I dont know many Mainers that would pass up a buck like that.  We simply dont get monster racks up here.  That rack is typical of a mature buck in my area.  I have seen bigger, but very few.  Now if you want to talk body size and weight…...........we have some pretty big deer.

Very nice picture, I wish my cam was working out for me but I cant seem to get the right setting on it.  As a matter of fact, its not even afield right now.  I brought it home to play with.

I hope that deer gives you the opportunity this season Ron.  Let us know when you harvest one.

Slayer - good looking deer by anyone’s standard.  What would you peg him at?

I picked up two of those Hunten Cameras up at Menards. I think they were like $30. They really work well. They are a little too sensitive, I get an awful lot of photos at a time, but you just have to make sure there are no weeds or grasses any where near in front of the camera. Cuddyback sucks big time. I had to send one back to them. They did send another, but now it’s acting up too. Primos 35 works great for me too. The batteries seem to last forever.
I’m not much of an on the hoof scorer. I think he’d be 130 or 140. Looks like he’s missing a point on one side. Deductions you know.

Its hard to tell in this pic.  It looks like he did grow something back there but not like his other side.  I would agree with your estimation.  His tines are pretty tall and his antlers are outside his ears indicating at least over a 17 inch spread.  I would guess this one is over 20 for sure.  He is a very nice buck and I would be happy to put a tag on him.

Big Chino. I checked out your website and for a non resident it seems to me there is no chance to draw a tag for elk hunting. You explained this on your website. Do you have tags available from ranchers to buy? You have some really nice photos. Get me a hunt and I’ll join Mr. Ackerman in his praise.

Ron

Have you checked out the deals in the USA deal page? We are offering a 50% discount on a Over The Counter Archery deer hunt the week of December 10-16. The same week we filmed with Tom. This is a great hunt. We blocked out the week for Tom but the film Schedule did not work out. It is typically one of the best weeks if the hunt the 1st week of the RUT. Are you interested in that? It is a Mule deer Hunt.

No , I’ll have to pass. I did an elk hunt and an antelope hunt in New Mexico already this fall. I’m looking for something in the future, although I have an elk hunt scheduled for 2012 and 2013 already. I was just wondering about the license availabilty for non residents. Don’t know why, I’ll probably be dead before I use up the ones I’ve got paid for already.
I drew tags in New Mexico in the past, but didn’t for two years in a row. That’s when I started buying permits from ranchers. Arizona tags are tough to draw for nonresidents. How do you plan these hunts with this organization? Lucky draws I guess.

You have to draw in Az but in New Mexico i have contacts that you can hunt with that by far have the highest success with big bulls. Let me know If I can help. regardless you should try to draw az it will happen some day. I have guys that have been putting in and draw in one year and some that take 20 years. regardless I also have guys that have been putting in and send me a $500.00 check per year and when they draw their hunts are paid for.  You have to just put in!

BIG CHINO
Sounds good if I was 45 or 50. The outfit I hunted with near Riudosa had lucky hunters the year I drew. I didn’t realize how lucky I was in drawing. He said there would be 8 hunters in camp. There were 12. He had to hire other guides, and buy extra mules at the trail head to get all of us up to camp. If you were selling your mules at the trail head to some one else would you sell him your best mules?
I had signed up and paid for a spike hunt with the outfitter as my guide. We had the honor of meeting the video group from Hunting the Heartland. I see there show now on TV and wonder how they have aged so much and I haven’t ha ha. I figured if any one would get an elk it would be the video crew. I figured I’d be alright, the wilderness area was huge, and the outfitter told them to stay away from his area. We only ran into two of his guided hunters in five days.
Me and the video crew were the only ones that got one. They petered out the third day and were going down when about half way down they spotted three bulls bedded on a mountain side. They made a move on them and got a 350 bull. It’s better to be lucky than good any day.
There were plenty of bulls and room, but they couldn’t tell how many tags were going to be drawn by their hunters. They were good guides and I had a great hunt, but it was crowded.
Not trying to be negative but a lot of people don’t realize how it really is. I didn’t, but now I do, and I think I owe it to pass on what I found out about what can happen on a very expensive, once in a lifetime hunt. I am glad I got my bull or I would have to really be thinking that those video guys got took care of really good didn’t they.
I went with another well known outfitter in The Gila. He has bunches of photos of huge elk that his hunters have taken. He doesn’t have a sign saying how many hunters a year he takes. The guide told me 40 or 50. You have to ask how many were killed and how many hunters were there.
That’s really not fair either though because some hunters are J. O’s and couldn’t hit one no matter what. I think that’s the catagory I’m in some times.
You probably have a great outfit and Arizona is defenetly a good state for elk. Drawing hunts are cheaper too. Just adding my two cents.

ron,

Sounds like you have had some reality of the New mexico elk hunts. That is the problem with Private Land tags, see if the rancher will allow other to access his ranch for the hunt he gets more tags and they can hunt any ranch and public land. So by doing that they sell the hell out of the tags. In Az it is restricted to the draw with only 10% going to Non Residents. So an example their will only be 5 tags in a premium unit for Non residents and 20 out fitters are competing for those hunters so very rare do any out fitters have more than 3-4 in camp. Most of the time it is 1 or 2 as well as the truth is very few residents will hire guides 95% of our cliental is Non residents.

Any how the best of luck to you let me know if I can assist you in coming t arizona and getting a chance at one of these Monarchs.
