bug protection, good camo especially head cover, good to excellent seat cushion, push button call to limit movement nice if it has a gun mount, tripod sticks and practice sitting in all that gear in a hot room on a hard floor for a couple of hours no kidding.  See how long it takes before you fidget.  When you know that number plan to hunt for that time period otherwise you may lose interest in it especially if you are not lucky the first time.  The point I’m trying to make is; make yourself as comfortable as possible because when you are you won’t move and thats the key to turkey hunting all gear aside. Like another guy here said be ready because when the opportunity comes it will be a few seconds long after hours of boredom. Body frozen mind awake.

Hey guys! Turkey hunting is also a passion of mine. The only advice I can give, don’t take your wife! She’ll become addicted and then all you’ll want to do then is call for her and watch her kill all the turkeys! Mine is extremely addicted to it. She gets all sweaty and loses her breath every time she sees a turkey, just like she did when we first met! I can tell you that the last two seasons I have not had time to hunt for myself, as I dedicate my time off for turkey season to her shooting a big gobbler, but truthfully, I wouldnt change it for the world! I get so much pride in her hunting successes. Thought I would post, although it so late.

P.S. That was not a hundred percent honest…..this season I did get a day of turkey hunting to myself, and I called a gobbler within 5 yards, had about what looked to be an 11 inch beard, and when I squeezed the trigger, the shell was a dud. Apparently it had gotten wet the year before and I didnt realize it. This season goes down into my book of shame.

Well glad to see so many people got talking about turkey. Unfortunately, life got in the way of my turkey hunt two seasons in a row. But I changed spots, closer to the house so go things I hope. It is frustrating to be ready to go and get a phone that changes your plans. Well I’m in the woods this weekend for doe season so this sound be a good kick off to a great hunting season.

9292mtstew,

Good to see we have another turkey addict on the forum.  I got the bug last year after hunting with some folks in Kansas and I can’t wait for spring turkey to roll around in my neck of the woods here in Tennessee.  We will have to open a good thread and get some chatter going about this when we get a little closer to that time.  We might even be able to pull in Boss of the Woods as i believe he has a pretty good turkey addiction as well.

Keep posting and take care,

i never been crazy about turkey hunting but then i have no desire to get into complete camo and hide in the bushes and make a sound that every other hunter is in the woods hunting for!!  most GA hunters are too trigger happy, you know what i mean.

BigBird,

I got this crazy feeling that no one in the world could ever mistake you for a turkey unless they think they are going to bag a world record, 6 foot 8 inch thunder chicken!  I also suspect their would be hell to pay if they didn’t finish the job with the first shot grin

Hey Fellas
I have a fever for it. I think a new Forum for Turkeys would be great. I do have questions, though this thread answered alot of them and I thank you guys. Hitting the woods hard this weekend.
