Shot this Kodiak Brown Bear in the Spring of 2006. It squared at 9ft. -91/2 inches. This was a one shot kill with my .35 Whelen built on a ‘98 Mauser action with a Shilen Barrel. After iIdowned this brute, my guide Mike Munsey, who also owns Munsey’s Brown Bear Camp on Kodiak Island, Alaska, walked me backed to the spot where fired the shot. He said, “do you know how close you where when you fired.” I answered, “I never heard the shot go off”.” Mike used his range finder from that spot and it came up, 16yds. give or takea ccouple of feet. I entered this story in, ” THE NORTH AMERICAN HUNTER”, and it’s contest of a one shot kill and I won the First Prize. It was a Thompson Pro Hunter Black Powder Rifle.
