My Two Cents,
A friend of mine has one of these with a 24” stainless bull barrel, and the “JP” trigger group. I have seen/heard him put 20 out of 20 on an 8” steel plate at 600 yards on a perfect day! Definitely get the “JP” trigger! As for barrel length, it comes to whether you want a brush gun, or field artillery! Do get a bull barrel what ever length you decide on. They are more accurate, and the extra weight helps with muzzle lift. Do remember that the shorter the barrel, the more noise you make. If you are wanting a shorter barrel, don’t listen to the “you will lose velocity” hype! What is 50-100 fps when a good .308 load is moving 2700 fps or more? Buy a five round magazine, and you are deer legal. Recoil on these is surprisingly light. My 16” M1A (Lead and Paper) kicks like a mule compared to these rifles, and I can put 80 rounds through mine before I’m “tired”. Personally, I would get one with an 18” barrel and the good trigger, but that’s me.
If Santa wants to give you a $1500 rifle (buy the time you add a good scope), then you found one of the best out there! I’m asking him for a bolt-action Barrett .50!
Let us know what the jolly old ###### does for ya!
Andrew
PS
It is a modern sporting rifle, not an assault rifle. Assault rifles are capable of fully automatic fire, and used by trained military personel. Also, no civillian firearm can safely be converted to full auto, it just becomes a time bomb! If someone doesn’t like your semi-auto rifle, tell them to melt down their Benelli, Barretta, Winchester, Remington, etc. shotgun or Ruger 10/22!
