Any body have any experience with either the American Water Spaniel or the Boykin Spaniel for all-around upland/waterfowl dog?

If so any advice on choosing between the 2?

Breeder referrals?

Thanks,

I know very little about either though the boykin is the smaller of the two. Neither dog is very big and I would be reluctant to hunt either on big water or expect them to be able to deal with an angry 12-14 lb goose in any water for that matter. Is there a reason you want these dogs ? Such as wanting a smaller dog for hunting out of a boat ? Or do you have limited room in your home ? Most retrievers are more than capable of hunting both upland and waterfowl or you could go with the German wire hair which is a great all around dog.My Chessies have always done fine hunting roosters and they are machines in the water but if you wanted a smaller all around dog you could look a say a lab that comes from smaller parents or a smaller wire hair. Not saying dont get the two you are asking about you just would want to make sure they will be able to handle what you are going to ask of them.
