Hey all,
I’m new at this and im not sure if this post belongs here or not so bear with me! I’m a new and very proud owner of an M1 Garand and im looking for a video on the maintenance/proper cleaning for it, would like something that shows a complete detail strip of the rifle. I’m gun savvy when it comes to this kind of thing but we all need some help sometimes and I’m not a fan of being in over my head! Any help on where to get one from, or which one to get would be a big help!

Also what a great site and organization this is, i’m really glad to have joined and participate in it!

Dave,
Welcome to the club! I like to condider my self one of the “gun crazy fellars” Bigbird spoke of. Congrats on owning a piece of American history, and an iconic rifle! I have an M1A, wich is very simular to you Garand. They were both desined to be trouble free rifles with basic cleaning. No need to disassemble the bolt assembly etc.,
just follow your instruction manual for general cleaning. The main thing is to keep the chamber clean, and stay away from soft tip ammo and most of the foriegn stuff.
You can still get the US Army manual from Midway USA if you don’t have one. Gun videos are fun to watch too! Good job on Bigbird’s part for finding you one.

Once again, welcome brother! If I can be of any help send me a PM or type back on this post. Be glad to help.

Thanks for the welcome and the help! Very instructive, and answered another question about which solvents ect. were ok to use. Ive come to love this rifle in the short time I have owned it and want it to last so I am trying to treat her right, It is a CMP rifle so it really needs some tlc and a bath. Again, thank you both for the welcome and info!
