Never forget!

Click here to read:Buffalo Fire Departments worst day!Dec.27,1983

I hope this is not inapropriate to post here. In Buffalo New York,25 years ago Five Buffalo firefighters and two civilians lost their lives in the explosion on North Division Street Dec. 27, 1983 . Many lives were changed on and after that horrible day.
Many people don’t even remember where they were that day. I was walking over a snow covered bridge with my future wife. We were walking back to her house after going to the mall. As we crested the bridge, the sky lit up with a strange blueish lite - followed by what seemed to be thunder - louder than any I ever heard. The bridge shook - I held my wife(girl friend) and kissed her.
Been in the U.S.Army artillary, I remembered such sounds - I told her - something realy big - real bad just happened. We hurried to her Dads house - we watched the news and prayed for all those involved.
In 1985 I became a Buffalo Fire Fighter. I worked with many who were at that event - one became a vary close friend. He was the kindist person I ever met in the Fire Service. He never complained about losing a lung or half of his hearing. He was a sportsmen and gun owners, most of all he was a friend - He, Paul G. Meegan Died July 23, 2007, age 70 - God Rest His Sole.

There are many reasons for me to write this - the first and formost is to honor those who made the ultimate sacrafice for others. Second so that others may know and never forget the everyday guys and gals that serve others.

Thanks for reading this and please pass it on.
