Here is a video I made last summer with my Marcum VS380 black and white under water camera, and a small hand held DVR to capture the video from the camera. From the reviews on the internet, they say the black and white is supposed to be more clearer. The water really wasn’t very clear. They say the color picks up more particles floating in the water. Color would be nice but I’m satisfied with this.
At the beginning I was just cruising along a flat spot in the lake about 15” deep. Those are 4 or 5 pound largemouth bass swimming away from the camera. Then I’ve got some footage of the lure coming to the boat. I had the camera hanging about three feet down. Then I caught about a 39” musky. The last of the video shows three “follow ups” that I had. These fish like to follow the lure to the boat, many times striking as you move the lure in a figure eight motion.
I couldn’t find any muskys floating around with the camera, like I did with the bass. This was a local strip mine like we have here in central Ill. The water is fairly murky, but you can see about 6’ down on a bright day.
Just another one of my expensive toys(according to my wife) that keeps me from getting bored in my retirement.

.223 Remington Vs. .556 NATO

Many people assume that a .223 Remington and .556 NATO are exactly the same cartridge. This is wrong, .223 Remington is manufactured to SAMMI specifications where as the .556 NATO is manufactured to military specifications. Now I can hear you now , what about the 30-06 Springfield and other military cartridges. Well the problems came with the development of the XM-15 in the 1950s-1960s by Fairchild Aircraft . The development started with a .308 bullet then moved to a .224 bullet, 1st being the .222 Remington(which still exists today), the military wanted more velocity so a slightly larger case was constructed to develop slightly higher pressures. They felt that the .222 Magnum was just to long so they meet in the middle of the road. Then the .556mm x 41 mm came to life. Now comes the danger. According to SAMMI specs. the .223 Remington is a few thousandths of an inch smaller in headspace length than the .556x 41 NATO. Now this information is derived from both SAMMI chamber spec. drawings to Mil-Sec drawings.
To stay safe if you have an AR with a .223 Remington chamber( should be marked on front of barrel by gas port) use only commercial ammunition that is marked .223 Remington.
If you have an AR with a 5.56x41 chamber you can safely fire .223 Remington and military surplus ammo from this chamber.

Go to arbarrels.com an read the specs for yourself.
  Be safe and shoot well

I have found very few people that use a 280. I been looking for ammo for mine. Right now I’m shooting the Fusion and that’s shoots great for me.I can go with the high price such as Federal triple shot or trophy bond tip is over $40 a box. I spoke to one hunter that uses Remington 165 grain kor-loc. That’s $24 box through Cheaper then dirt plus shipping. Says dead is dead if shot placement is right. This hunter has hunted Moose in Alaska, black bear ,whitetail deer and did a shot on a ram sheep at 350 yards using 165 grain kore-loc.I’m thinking do I really need high price ammo.
I have used 150 grain kore-loc in my 308 and did a head shot on a whitetail doe at 104 yards

I found this small camera on the internet that I’m thinking about attaching to my bow this fall during hunting season. It makes my bow sound really loud, but it isn’t at all. The quality isn’t too bad for the size of the thing. It really is the size of a package of chewing gum. I attached it to my bow site with two tie-wraps.
I had been shooting for a while and thought I was doing well enough to try the video. Of course as soon as I turned the camera on, it was like shooting in front of the world.
I’m sure they aren’t union made or made in the USA, but it was only $17.00. It also takes still shots. Look on Amazon for a place to buy one.

Does any one use Federal Fusion ammo? I bought a used Remington 700 Mountain Rifle in 280. Here in Florida a 280 isn’t a popular round. Finding ammo for it local is hard. One shop did have 4 boxes of 140 grain Fusion. So I bought it all. I have done nickle groups at 100 yards with it using a rest. I have shot 2 hogs with it and both were 1 shot and dead. I been told Fusion is ok for thin skin game like deer. Hogs aren’t thin skinned at all. One shot was right behind the ear at 75 yards and the other was a 40 yard heart shot. I was wondering if any one would hunt an Elk or a Black bear with Fusion ammo. I know shot replacement has to be right no matter what you use
Thanks

I see discussions in fishing are lacking. So I want to put out some things, being a amauter sportsman. I bought a Ardent reel for my brother-in-law cause I’m an idiot. However, I got crazy responses from other guys including the salesman, about how great the reels are and worth the money. Does anyone in the forum have an opinion on that or use one? Next I do alot of saltwater fishing due to the fact I live in Jacksonville at it is everywhere. I’m slacking on a my freshwater ie bass. I need some advice on what is some good beginneer tackle I should buy and size rod I should use? Ok people lets crank this up. The fish are getting ready and so am I.
