USA Receives ‘Shout Out’ From AFL-CIO President
Newly elected, AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka never misses an opportunity to talk about the Union Sportsmen’s Alliance. While attending an energetic rally in Cleveland, he gave notice once again to the union-dedicated club and stressed the importance of unions engaging in conservation issues. The rally was the first of many, as the new AFL-CIO leadership team travels across the country to hear from workers and fire up the union movement.
"Huge shout out," said USA National Membership Coordinator Nate Whiteman. "In my opinion, when an individual like President Trumka speaks passionately about the USA, the great outdoors and conservation, others will listen and realize the benefits this outdoor club offers to all union members. What an individual to have on our side!"
A lifelong outdoorsman, Trumka helped expand traditional roles of the union beyond the workplace through his involvement with the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership, a coalition of the nation’s leading conservation organizations and grassroots partners working together to preserve the traditions of hunting and fishing.
Recognizing that many of his union brothers and sisters share a similar sentiment, Trumka helped establish a partnership between the AFL-CIO and the TRCP, which led to the creation of a one-of-a-kind hunting and fishing club exclusively for union members - the USA. Serving as a member of the USA Working Committee, Trumka has been a leader in bringing new opportunities and benefits to the millions of union members who hunt, fish and recreate outdoors.
"I’ve had the pleasure of hunting sharp-tailed grouse and pheasants in the Montana foothills with Rich. The enthusiasm and tenaciousness he showed climbing up and down those hills is the same kind of commitment he has poured into supporting the TRCP’s conservation efforts," said TRCP President and CEO George Cooper. "I am excited about the opportunity to further grow our relationship with the AFL-CIO and Rich and to see the Union Sportsmen’s Alliance continue to flourish."
