USA Midwest Shoot a Huge Success

Sara Gabbard

midwest_shoot_article300More than 150 union members and shooting enthusiasts recently came together in the spirit of fellowship and fun for the Inaugural Union Sportsmen’s Alliance Midwest Sporting Clays Shoot on October 23, 2009.

The event, personally hosted by the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers and their President, Newton Jones, was held at Saddle and Sirloin Shooting Sports Club in Kansas City, MO. This unique facility provided a wonderful location, offering an expansive sporting clays course with 14 stations and nonstop excitement.

The shoot was followed by lunch for all shooters and a raffle featuring great prizes, including a Beretta Urika 2 Gold shotgun, a Lincoln Electric welder, a commemorative Theodore Roosevelt Buck knife, a duck and goose hunt from Iron Duck Outfitters and much more.

"Everyone had a great time and we are already looking forward to holding this event again next year," said USA National Director of Recruitment Nate Whiteman. "I cannot thank the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers enough for their support and physical help with putting on this event.  There’s no way we would have had this type of success without them."

Overall, the event was a huge success and raised almost $65,000 that will go right back into making the USA an even greater value for union members, while helping support the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership’s efforts to guarantee all Americans a place to hunt and fish.

"Creating fun and memorable events for our members is just one way the USA is working to connect union sportsmen and women across the country," said USA Executive Director Fred Myers. "Through these shooting events, we hope to recruit new members while further strengthening the bond of union brotherhood."

We would like to give special thanks to the AFL-CIO and the USA partner unions that fielded teams at the event, including: IBB, UA, IAFF, IBEW, Roofers, Ironworkers, SMWIA, IUPAT, OPCMIA and BAC. We also want to thank all of the following vendors for making the event a great success: Appreciated Advertising, Brotherhood Bank and Trust, Union Insurance Group, Callender Printing Co. (913-371-0330), Nooter Construction Company, Legacy Professionals, The Marco Consulting Group, Enerfab, Kiewit Power Constructors, and HMC Companies & informed RX an SXC Company (413-737-9183).
