USA Kids Create Artwork from Nature
January is National Creativity Month, so we are very pleased to end this month by showcasing the winners of our USA Kid’s Nature Art Contest. The contest, which was announced in the November issue of The Union Sportsmen’s Journal, asked youth to combine their imagination and nature inspiration to create artwork out of materials found in nature.
Participants were divided into three age groups: 3-7, 8-12 and 13-16. Thanks to our friends at ProEars, Plano and Ruger, the winner of each age group received a pair of ProEars ReVO hearing protection muffs and a Plano 5000 Starter Tackle Box, and all participants were entered in a drawing for a Ruger 10/22 Compact rifle.
The hard work of the youth was evident in all the entries, so the USA staff had some tough choices.
Ages 3-7 Category Winner
Kailani Alvarez (age 5) won the 3-7 age group with her pine cone Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer and Christmas tree. According to her mom, Barbara, she was very excited about the contest and had fun with the project.
Ages 8-12 Category Winner
Kaitlyn McCormick (age 11) won the 8-12 age group with her wildlife scene. Using bark as a base, Kaitlyn used an acorn for a raccoon; pine cones and pecan hulls for a dog; rocks and turkey feather stems for turtles; acorns, rocks and turkey feathers for turkeys; and a squirrel hide and sticks for the squirrel. Kaitlyn was also drawn as the lucky winner of the Ruger 10/22 Compact.
Ages 13-16 Category Winner
Jackie Daily (age 13) won the 13-16 age group with a beautiful holiday wreath she created from deer sheds, a turkey beard and arrows. Since those kinds of things are commonly lying around in her household, she thought this contest would be a good use for them.
Congratulations to our winners and thank you to all the youth who participated!
