Solidarity Through the Great Outdoors
As the sun rose on the USA’s 19th shoot this year, no one would have ever guessed that it would become one of the best and most exciting shoots of our cross-country tour.
Not only did the event raise a record amount of money in a down economy but it brought together more than 200 union members from around the region—uniting them on a lifestyle level during a time when union solidarity is so crucial to the labor movement.
Boasting the highest number of pre-registered shooters we’ve ever experienced for a USA event (214), the shooting triathlon also broke the record for the highest grossing general admission day raising more than $90,000 for the organization and solidifying the fact that union members who hunt and fish truly love the USA.
Drawing nearly 30 teams from across the Midwest, members of Boliermakers Local 363 out of Belleville, Illinois took home the top prize for the team shoot with a score of 406, while Roofers International President Kinsey Robinson took home the top prize for an individual shooter with a score of 94.
“The Kansas City shoot is one of the best I have ever attended,” said USA Executive Director Fred Myers. “Not only did the event raise a record amount of money to support our conservation mission, but it brought together union members from various communities around the region—uniting them for a great cause.”
The USA would like to thank President Newton Jones, Secretary-Treasurer Bill Creeden and the entire International Brotherhood of Boilermakers union for their incredible support.
We would also like to thank our growing community of corporate partners including Union Insurance Group, Brotherhood Bank, Columbia Partners, The Marco Consulting Group and many more who helped drive the event revenue to record levels. Finally, we would like to thank all of the participating unions and their locals for the tremendous turnout and support of this year’s event.
In 2011, the USA will host 25 sporting clays and trap shoots in 17 states across the country—including Alaska, California, Nevada, Kansas, Missouri, Washington D.C. and more.
With record membership recruiting and renewal months on the books, the continued success of the sporting clays series, the launch of our television show Brotherhood Outdoors and other positive developments for the USA, we look forward to delivering even greater value back to the labor movement throughout North America in 2012.
