Shoot For A Cure was established in 2003 with just 86 shooters at the first event in Northern California. Last year, Shoot For A Cure held six events covering 12 states and raised over $100,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. All of the proceeds support the 30 Leukemia research facilities nationwide. Today, the cure rate is just over 87%, and Shoot For A Cure aims to help eradicate the diseases by 2015.
This exciting sporting clays charity event attracts hundreds of new shooters every year, and nearly 80 percent of Shoot For A Cure participants are Union members. Each event is hosted by Union locals, Building Trades councils and Central Labor councils. The event Executive Committees and Co-Chairs are comprised of Local Union Presidents, International Vice Presidents, State AFL-CIO Presidents and Leukemia & Lymphoma Society volunteers. The shoots bring together Labor Unions, outdoor organizations, contractors, business leaders and elected officials in support of a great cause.
Over the next five years, Shoot For A Cure hopes to establish regional and national championships, host at least 12 shoots per year and raise $500,000 annually for Leukemia research.
